I’ve always known I wanted to dedicate my career to a profession in which I can help other people. Being able of influence their health and wellness is something that makes me feel self-fulfilled and compromised with society. That was the main reason that motivated me to dedicate my time and effort to Psychology.
During my time as student I felt fascinated by the complexity of human behavior, but it was during my professional experience when I realized about the importance of understanding those behaviors in the even more complex context of each person’s core beliefs system. Being able to understand how each patient gets influenced by his/her past experiences -mostly the relationships with primarily attachment figures- helps us to deeply understand his/her current situation, which is crucial to make from therapy a completely comforting process.
My goal in therapy is, therefore, to make the patient conscious of those aspects of the way of perceiving reality that don’t let him/her have a completely fulfilling life according to his/her happiness standards, and change them by others more adaptive. In that process it’s essential that the patient feels understood and accompanied through an empathetic and judgement-free listening, as well as showing a sensitive attitude towards his/her needs in each moment of it.
